Doodling a Dragon

Now that I’ve taken down the Christmas decorations – and cleaned up after them! – and the Christmas cake is all eaten, it’s time to get back into ‘work mode’! I’ve made a new work plan and it includes, at some point, opening a new Welsh Language Zazzle store.

The emphasis is on ‘at some point’ as I have plenty of other, more urgent things to do. But my Naughty Pencil couldn’t resist doodling a little dragon for the new store’s banner.

I’m not sure yet whether to give my dragon teeth. And how can I make his face look less like a cow's? Just a couple of my immediate reactions on seeing my doodle on the computer screen. I’m very thankful for my computer because, when I scan in an image and see it on the screen, it often helps me to see things I want to change. So the finished dragon may be quite different in all sorts of small ways.

I hope to take my dragon to the next stage and paint it over the weekend – and it may even form the basis of a new St David’s Day greeting card.

Stay tuned . . .

the dragon is so cute Judy and he will look wonderful as your banner! So....do you speak Welsh? And that is Gaelic? Just a yankee over the pond wanting to learn about my Anglo-friend. :-)

Thank you, Crystal :)

No,unfortunately, I don't speak much Welsh, though since I moved here the place names have become less daunting. I did start to teach myself just before I moved here but gave up when I discovered there are various versions spoken in different parts of Wales.

I do, though, have a nephew who lives in Cardiff and speaks most of the Celtic languages, Irish Gaelic, Cornish, Breton . . . his voicemail message in all those languages goes on for rather a long time! And he has offered to help me out with translations.

Your dragon is off to an adorable start! When he is all finished, it would be very interesting to see scans of him as he developed 9for those of us who are absolute clutzes in the artistic talent department - give me a camera anytime)!

Sounds like it's gong to be the year of the Dragon for your stores! I think his muzzle just needs to be elongated to make it more reptilian.

Hi Peggy - lovely to see you here!

I certainly will post my dragon when he's finished - and I'm sure you could draw if you really wanted to! But your photos are great - it's just that you might have difficulty finding a dragon to photograph :)

Hi Di - you're absolutely right about my dragon's muzzle!

My problem has been that I have a fridge magnet with a really cute dragon with a spherical muzzle and it's been hard to get that one out of my mind! I can see a lot more fiddling with my dragon is going to be necessary!

Fascinating to read about your impressions of your own creations. Unfortunately I don't have any suggestions, but I do like the dragon, and would love to see how he evolves.

Hi Betsy - my dragon is evolving already!

Di's idea of making his muzzle longer motivated me to get my tedious uploading work done quickly to make time to try out some changes.

He's already looking less like a cow with a dragon's body!

It's so true isn't it. If I get stuck on an image all I have to do is scan it and look at it again and I can see immediately what needs changing. I can't wait to see this little guy later as he's cute right now.

Hi Carole - it's strange, isn't it, the way things that need changing leap out at you on the screen. I'm wondering if it's anything to do with seeing the image 'vertically'. When I was attending art classes, way back, I used to hang up my painting in the kitchen for a while when I came home and invariably I'd see something that was needed to improve it that I hadn't seen in the class.

The new, (hopefully) improved dragon is on its way . . .
