Do you see what I see? A tree beginning to show its Autumn colours? In July?
When I was tidying up my garden earlier this week, I noticed that some of the flowers that I associate with September are already in flower - anemones, montbretia (coppertips, falling stars). This chestnut tree really astonished me, though, when I noticed it on my way across the park to the shops this morning!
But I suppose when you remember that my roses started to bloom a couple of months early, in April, this year, it's not surprising that the leaves are starting to turn - in the middle of July!

Sometimes change may happen if you've had a dry spell. The leaves start to change in response to the dryness.
We had heat early on here and as a result everything came to bloom quickly. Flowers that usually didn't bloom until late summer came on early. On the other hand, we also had some early frosts. I don't know what's going on, but something is.
Hi Carol - we've actually had a lot of rain this month and more to come. June wasn't very good either. But we had about six weeks of lovely sunny, dry weather in the Spring and I think that was our Summer. It's all very odd!

In Australia we are in Winter, and I too have noticed my garden and plants are about 2-3 months ahead of them selves. It's lovely thinking Spring may come sooner. I hope so.

Hi Michelle - amazing to hear that the same kind of weather pattern is going on 'down under'! Trouble is, here it will mean an early start to winter if it continues. Not that I mind winter at all - and I love the Autumn - but a lot of people do.
Oh my goodness! It sure isn't anywhere near autumn here. Most days it's in the 90's with over a hundred heat index. I can't wait till fall, my favorite time of the year. The crisp days and nights the beautiful earthy colors and preparations for the holidays. :-)
Hi Crystal - it came as a shock to me too. I would have wondered whether there was some problem with the tree if it hadn't been that some of my 'September' flowers hadn't already come out in my garden!
I actually love the Autumn too but mid-July does seem a bit early!
There are small conkers on the local trees, and I have the heater on in the studio today. I don't mind Autumn too much, it's the winter that follows it that bothers me. When I am Prime minister I will ensure that May comes straight after October, thereby getting rid of all that cold weather nonsense.
Oh no, please don't do that Michele - I'd miss out on my snow photos that sell so well locally as Christmas cards!
