Tree paintings #19 - near Bath

I'm afraid I don't remember for sure where the woodland above is - the scan is just labeled 'forest'! But I suspect it's in the Black Mountains, somewhere in the area of the 'Where's my Teddy?' Woods..

On the other hand, it looks a bit similar to the painting below, which I know for sure is a patch of woodland in the grounds of the American Museum in Bath. The gardens there are beautiful, as is the building and, being an 'on-and-off' quilter, I spent a quite blissful afternoon amongst the stupendous collection of quilts there.

But, naturally, it was just an unpretentious little patch of trees that caught my eye....and of course, once again,  the patterns made by the sunlight and the shadows!

Very nice. Because of the size, I can't tell for sure; what is the medium? Pastels?

Hi Crystal - glad you like them! I can't say this often enough - I just paint what I see!

Hi Terry - yes, they are soft pastels, which I love because they are so direct, no fiddling around with washing brushes and mixing washes! The only drawback is that they are so easily smudged in storage and extremely difficult to transport. Most of the originals are about 10" x 15".

Judy, This is a very pretty woodland painting!

I didn't know about the American Museum in Bath.

Hey...since you are getting interested in birds....can we expect you to paint them? A Pheasant would be nice...before you cook him. hehehe

Hi Jean - thank you!

I didn't know about the American Museum either but I have some old friends who live nearby and they took me there.

I'll put the pheasant on my ever-lengthening list of things to paint! Probably be best in oil pastels. I heard the woodpecker this morning when I was hanging out the washing. It was really making quite a din!

Judy, I love how you capture the light in your paintings. Also, Bath is one of my favorite places in England. Wish I were there now.

Hi Liz - thank you for your comments. And yes, Bath is a beautiful city and only just over an hour away from where I live!
